Hello, and thank you for visiting my website. I'm Karen Charlton, a novelist and editor. I write historical crime fiction and non-fiction. My nov els are all set in Regency England.
'Catching the Eagle' is the true story of our notorious ancestor, Jamie Charlton, who was convicted of Northumberland's biggest robbery. My Detective Lavender Mysteries are based on the fictional adventures of Stephen Lavender, a real-life detective with Bow Street magistrate's court in London.
You can find out more about me, my books and my main characters by following the links on the side of this page. On the Genealogy pages you can also learn more about the research which led us to the skeleton in our family closet. There's a fascinating cache of interviews with fellow authors in the Guest Interview section, a podcast interview further down this page, and I periodically post some musings about all things literary on my blog page. If you would like to contact me, I’d love to hear from you and if you would like to follow me on Facebook please click here.
I hope you enjoy your visit.
Two weeks ago, I had an amazing experience. I was head-hunted by Emile Marneur, the Senior Acquisitions Editor, from Amazon Publishing. She wanted my Detective Lavender Series to publish under their Thomas & Mercer crime fiction imprint. She had read ‘The Heiress of Linn Hagh’ and loved it. She wanted to know if there was any chance we could work together on the Detective Lavender Series. After some discussion, she offered me a jaw-dropping advance in order to take over the books. I know that it was jaw-dropping because my mouth couldn’t formulate words properly when I phoned my sister immediately afterwards.
Needless to say, I am absolutely delighted. Stunned, surprised and shocked. But absolutely delighted.
